Alex Chamwada’s Chams Media has renewed its partnership with the Nation Media Group (NMG) for one more year for the ‘Daring Abroad’ show.
Daring Abroad is a TV docu-series that features Kenyans living and working in other countries, and foreign nationals living and working in Kenya. Between 2015 and 2019, the show aired on Standard Group’s KTN News. However, in 2020, Chams Media signed a deal that would see the rebranded show begin airing on NTV Kenya, a journey that has so far been successful.
Speaking during the launch, Chams Media CEO Alex Chamwada thanked his audience who he said has been a key pillar in pushing him to keep producing the show.
“We have a captive audience across the world. An audience that wants inspiration, information and entertainment away from the normal content. The show is not just about what Kenyans are doing abroad or Majuu as some would say. It has evolved to showcase linkages between abroad and home. We have showcased captivating stories about skills and knowledge transfer as well as investment opportunities abroad and back home,”said Chamwada during the renewal of the partnership.
According to the Central Bank of Kenya, Kenyans living abroad sent home about Ksh300 billion in the year 2020 despite the covid19 pandemic.
According to Nation Media Group CEO Mr Stephen Gitagama, Daring Abroad show continues to inspire more Kenyans to try their luck in other countries thus making them more productive and economically empowered.
“Daring Abroad is a program I personally like. It inspires a number of Kenyans to discover other parts of the world, and that is the essence of Daring Abroad. It encourages our youth, our citizens to look for opportunities outside their mother countries,”said Gitagama.
Chamwada announced in the second phase of the docu-series, the show will be even more entertaining, informative and inspiring. The local segment in the show will also be rebranded to ‘Back Home’, as the media houses seek to reconnect Kenyans living abroad with their motherland.
“We first penned this partnership at the most unlikely period, that is, in the wake of the Covid19 pandemic in 2020. This partnership has taught us that content is king. It has also taught us that content is business. We have also learnt that there is a growing audience that wants inspiration,”said Chamwada.
“Through Daring Abroad, we have taken our views around the world at the comfort of their living rooms or at the click of a button. From London to Goma City in DRC, Accra to Dubai, Arusha to Seychelles to name a few.”
Chams Media was founded in 2013 by veteran TV journalist Alex Chamwada as an independent production company.
“We are happy to note that this anniversary coincides with yet another key anniversary. The Nation.Africa anniversary. We look forward to an even stronger collaboration in digital content dissemination,”he said.
Apart from the Daring Abroad show, Chams Media has also made a name as one of the go-to Companies for documentary production and Public Relations.
The Company also produces Ushirika, a program that focuses on the Cooperative movement in Kenya. The program which is sponsored by the Cooperative Bank of Kenya, airs on NTV Kenya.
