Former Kenya Re Boss Jackson Githaka Jailed For Two Years

The High Court has upheld the ruling that former Kenya Re executive, Jackson Githaka, serves two years in jail or pay a fine of Ksh15.1 million for fraudulent acquisition of public property.

In a ruling made in April 2019, Jackson Githaka was sentenced to two years in prison for illegally receiving Ksh7.26 million from the sale of a property owned by the United Insurance Company.

Justice John Onyiego, while dismissing an appeal by Mr. Githaka, ruled that he was properly convicted and sentenced by the magistrate’s court.

In his ruling in April last year, Magistrate Felix Kombo stated that the State had proved the case of fraudulent acquisition of public property beyond reasonable doubt.

Kenya Re MD and Statutory Manager United Insurance Company, wrote to Muriu Mungai and Co. Advocates on January 27, 2006 instructing them to release the 3 per cent commission of the sale price to an agent who was not specified.

3 per cent of the purchase price of Ksh.242 million amounted to Ksh.7,260,000.

Johnson Githaka used the commission to purchase Nairobi Block 90/298 situated in Loresho estate and registered in his name and that of his spouse.
