#InternationalWomensDay : Credit Bank Celebrates Women Inclusion In Leadership

Kenya Credit Bank Plc joined the #EachforEqual campaign during the International Women’s Day 2020 celebrations.

The bank has been on the limelight for its support in enabling women entrepreneurs by providing capital opportunities to women led businesses. Credit Bank is one of the less than five banks in Kenya led by a female CEO  .

The campaign  at the center of this year’s International Women’s Day, was #EachForEqual which sought to draw attention into the idea that gender inequality isn’t a women’s issue, but an economic one,as gender equality is essential for economies and communities to thrive.

Business boardrooms, government departments are just some of the key areas of focus highlighted by this year’s campaign that needs equality into enabling women .This was done by celebrating women’s achievement, raising awareness of bias and calling out inequality, as the campaign says, we can all help to bring about change across the world.

According to Credit Bank’s Head of Marketing and Business Pamela Mutembei, “Credit Bank is at the forefront of inclusivity. We are exercising this from empowering our female staff internally as well as supporting women entrepreneurs at the bank. Our support to women-led businesses includes ease of access to capital, networking and mentorship forums, and providing financial solutions tailored to women’s needs. Financial solutions include access to credit with lower collateral requirements.”

Women entrepreneurs face multiple challenges to access finance lending to women is seen as riskier, so they face prohibitive interest rates. In addition, women often lack traditional collateral and guarantees. In the recent past, financial institutions lack the capacity to understand and respond appropriately to women entrepreneurs, who also often lack the financial and business acumen to respond to the needs of financial institutions.”

In late 2019, Credit Bank was the only bank in Kenya that was represented during the AFAWA Global gender summit that was held in Kigali Rwanda that will see enable over 1 Billion in funding into women led enterprises as from 2020.

The United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day in the International Women’s Year, 1975. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women’s rights and world peace. Kenya being a member state of the United nations many across the region embrace into the celebration.

Credit bank has in the recent years won prestigious awards including recently wrapped up Kenya Bankers awards which positioned the bank as the best in customer service and digital experience in its tier. This reflected on the released survey results on the Customer Satisfactory in Kenyan Banks. Kenyan financial services have over the years continued to roll out initiatives designed to maximize the sector’s contribution to the national development agenda.
