Lydia Achieng Lied To Media – DPP Haji Says

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has said that Lydia Achieng, a woman jailed for 10 years since 2010 on claims that she had defiled a minor, was lawfully sentenced.

Haji said that Achieng lied to the media by stating that she was jailed for a crime that she did not commit.

“She is lawfully in prison, and we concluded that matter and it was lawfully determined; nothing of that sort [wrongful conviction] happened, and I want to confirm that even though it happened before I came in,” said Mr. Haji.

Ms Achieng has only two months left on her jail term.

According to the Interview conducted by Inooro TV, Achieng’s troubles began when she took in an orphaned girl under her roof and she (orphan) allegedly developed a romantic interest with the son of a fellow resident, identified only as Sophie.

Lawyer Nelson Havi on Tuesday stated that a team of advocates has since been constituted and will review the judgement against Ms Achieng, faulting the DPP for accusing the woman of lying.

“We have constituted a team of Advocates to review this Judgment and all preceding criminal proceedings relating to Lydia Achieng. For now, it is premature of DPP under whose office the prosecution proceeded, to conclude that Achieng lied to media on her account of what happened,” wrote Havi on Twitter.
