Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata Nominated For Global Leadership Award

Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has been nominated for the Tällberg/Eliasson Global Leadership Award.

He will compete for the award against other social and political leaders from Africa who have also been nominated for the same.

All the nominees will be competing for the ultimate prize of Ksh50 million and a session to network with leaders who have a track record of changing their societies across the world.

The event is set to be held at American University in Cairo, Egypt by the Tallberg Foundation.

Speaking on his nomination, the senator said that should he win, he would use the prize money to compliment his social projects to communities.

He stated: “I’m glad that there is a person somewhere who recognizes one’s efforts to the society even as we help our voters to uplift their living standards. Should I emerge victorious, the prize will address various challenges affecting Murang’a as a county and will I increase mobile clinics.”

Senator Kang’ata has been nominated for his projects such as the frequent medical camps which he organises using his own resources as well as the water project which he initiated during his tenure as Kiharu MP.

He is also lauded for his efforts to construct Kaigwa borehole in Gaturi, piping of water in Muchunguca, Mirira, Ndikwe and Gacaru, areas which are considered as semi-arid.

According to a statement obtained from the Foundation, the voting is ongoing and will be closed on April 12.

“Voting closes on April 12, jury comprised of international eminent experts from various bodies including an Inter-Parliamentary Union representative (a global body of parliamentarians) who will do the final selection and results announced in August 2019, ” the statement read in part.

Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka lauded Senator Kang’ata and nominated him to attend the event.
