Nation Media Group (NMG) editorial director Mutuma Mathiu has announced changes in the editorial department, appointing new faces to head different departments.
In the changes, Daniel Kalinaki has been appointed the Africa Editor and General Manager Editorial for NMG Uganda.
“Daniel will spearhead our Africa coverage and provide much-needed leadership for the Group’s expansion into Africa while maintaining his current responsibilities. He reports to the Group Editorial Director on matters Africa. On all other matters, his current reporting line remains unchanged,” said Mathiu.
Joseph Warungu was appointed as the Managing Editor for Broadcasting, with a task of spearheading a transformation from a traditional broadcast content provider to a digital operation.
He will reports to the Group Editorial Director with a dotted line to the Head of Broadcasting.
Long-serving editor Jackson Mutinda Munyao is the new Managing Editor for The EastAfrican.
Mutinda will be charged with re-asserting the Nation’s presence in the region by strengthening The EastAfrican, exploring new products, building new partnerships and overseeing the integration of the brand into the Nation.Africa branded house. Mutinda is an old hand at The EastAfrican. He reports to the Group Editorial Director.
Michael Omondi has been appointed as the lead editor for Business Daily, with a priority assignment of strengthening content and overseeing the integration of Business Daily into Nation.Africa. He reports to the Group Editorial Director.
Veteran journalist Peter Ngare on the other side has been appointed the Editorial Administration Manager & Managing Editor, Taifa Leo.
“We will be relying on Peter to help take care of budget, staff welfare, arranging training, among other administrative duties, during this difficult time. He retains his position in Taifa and will combine the two roles. Peter reports to the Group Editorial Director,” added Mathiu.
Leonard Guchu will be the lead editor for Saturday Nation
For the Eldoret Bureau and region, Patrick Langát has been appointed as the regional news editor. He previously worked for the Kisumu bureau.
