Stars To Be Banned From Well-paying Jobs At BBC, Number Of Radio, TV Stations to be Reduced
British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is mulling reducing the number of its TV and Radio stations, new reports have emerged.
According to Sunday Times, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is aiming to restructure model of the business, that could see hundreds rendered jobless.
Apart from reducing the number of TV and radio stations, the website could be scaled back and stars banned from taking well-paid second jobs.
The media house which has penetrated most African countries aims at replacing the licence fee with a subscription model.

“We are having a consultation and we will whack it. It has got to be a subscription model. They’ve got hundreds of radio stations, they’ve got all these TV stations and a massive website. The whole thing needs massive pruning back,” said a source close to the PM.
Last month, BBC announced that it is set to send home at least 450 employees from BBC News in new plan to save the media house £80 million (Ksh8 billion) by 2022.
In a story published on their website, BBC announced that the departments to be affected include BBC Two’s Newsnight, BBC Radio 5 Live and the World Update programme on the World Service. BBC Two’s Victoria Derbyshire programme is also set to be closed.
BBC News boss Fran Unsworth said there had to be a move away from traditional broadcasting and towards digital.
BBC News currently employs around 6,000 people, including 1,700 outside the UK.
