As the world continues to battle against the COVID-19 pandemic by exercising self-isolation, many Kenyans have had to adjust to settling into their new normal. Although movement will be restricted during the curfew times, for those traveling, Uber is sharing valuable travel tips which follow the directives provided by the Government:

  1. Traveling terms: Practising social distancing and self-isolation remains critical to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Although a national curfew is in place to limit the spread of COVID-19, Kenyans can take advantage of Uber every day between 6 pm  to 5 am to help you get around.
  2. Get an extra hand: As an extra helping hand, senior citizens and those with special needs have the option of getting around with Uber Assist which is specifically designed to assist with and cater for the needs of those who are wheelchair-bound.
  3. How to keep safe: It’s no secret that apart from practising social distancing, exercising good hygiene is the most important step to combat the spread of COVID-19. To ensure the safety of both riders and drivers, it is required that drivers sanitize their vehicles with a surface sanitizer after each trip. Whilst riders are encouraged to sit at the back seat of the vehicle to limit close contact, Uber users are also encouraged to follow the World Health Organization’s health tips such as washing their hands, and to rather stay home if they are feeling sick or seek medical attention.
  4. Support: Safety information is available on the app or via emails, on Uber website and on social media platforms. Uber has also launched a free SMS-based course for drivers on COVID- 19 prevention and awareness. If riders or drivers who have contracted or been exposed to the virus, they will have their accounts temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of the community at large. We are also financially supporting drivers and delivery people who are diagnosed with COVID-19 or placed in individual quarantine by a public health authority.
  5. Delivery at your doorstep: Stepping out during this time may seem like a daunting task to some, that’s why Uber Eats (Nairobi) is available to get the food  delivered to you need at the tap of a button,  from 7 am to 5:45 pm, daily, with the option of contactless delivery.

Brian Njao, Uber Country Manager for Kenya says, “Ensuring the health and safety of both drivers and riders is a core focus of ours at Uber and we will continue playing our part to best support those who make use of our services. As we navigate through these uncertain times, one thing that is certain is the spirit of unity. We are in this together.”
