Two suspects have been arrested in Nyamira with Bata shoes worth Ksh7 million, suspected to be part of Ksh20 million loot orchestrated using e-gift vouchers.

“Following the loss of goods worth over Ksh. 20 Million by Bata Shoe Company through fake egift vouchers by fraudsters presented to several Bata shops within Nairobi, two suspects have today been arrested by @DCI_Kenya Serious Crime detectives at Keroka, Nyamira County,” the DCI said.

The recovery was made from a shop owned by the said suspects, and further investigations are going on for more arrests and recoveries.

The suspects are thought to have used the Bata Club vouchers which entitle members to discount vouchers, birthday gifts, private sales, exclusive previews and many other advantages.

It is not yet clear how they were able to hack the system without the management noticing, and made away with shoes of such a value.
