Insurance Providers Reinstate Nairobi Women’s Hospital In Their List of Health Care Providers

Insurance providers have reinstated the Nairobi Women’s Hospital (NWH) as an accredited healthcare services providers effective April 20, 2020.

Clients with insurance cover can now seek both inpatient and outpatient services at all of NWH’s 9 health facilities.

The decision to reinstate the NWH in the list of accredited healthcare services providers comes after both the

Hospital and respective insurance companies agreed on measures that will enhance the delivery of healthcare services to patients and others seeking services at the Hospital.

“The suspension has been lifted following extensive engagement between the management of Nairobi Women’s Hospital and individual medial insurance companies. A working formula on handling of patients, administrative procedures and process have been agreed upon by all parties,” said a statement from the Association of Kenyan Insurers (AKI).

“We welcome the decision to reinstate NWH back on the panel of accredited healthcare services providers especially at this crucial time when patients need as many options as possible, which we at NWH can offer while maintaining the highest levels of quality and affordability,” said Dr Sam Thenya, founder of the Nairobi Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Thenya additionally thanked the Association of Kenya Insurers who were also instrumental in reaching the decision to lift NWH’s suspension coming on the back of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council recent clearing the Hospital of all overcharging allegations, confirming that NWH’s fees are in line with industry benchmarks.

Inpatient and outpatient services will however be in line with the Ministry of Health Coronavirus (COVID-19) recent guidelines that include:

1. All elective non-emergency procedures will be rescheduled.

2. Emergency procedures will continue in line with NWH safety guidelines.

3. All routine Consultant, Physiotherapy, Ophthalmology and Dental clinics are suspended for the next 30 days.

4. All patients booked for consultant reviews will be rescheduled to 1st May 2020.

5. Any urgent and necessary consultant reviews will be managed on a case-by-case basis through the hospital managers.

6. All patients requiring essential drug refills shall be attended to at NWH casualties according to the Hospital’s patient safety guidelines.

NWH further notes that Dr Felix Wanjala stepped aside as the Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer on the February 8, 2020 and was subsequently disengaged from the Company by mutual agreement with the Board of Directors.
