KRA: How to Apply For Payment Plan Through iTax
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has urged taxpayers with outstanding tax debts to apply for payment plans through its iTax portal, as the December 31, 2026 deadline for the tax amnesty approaches.
In guidance issued to taxpayers, the authority outlined the steps for applying for a payment plan, allowing those with qualifying outstanding liabilities to regularise their tax affairs before the deadline.
Taxpayers seeking to apply are required to log into the iTax portal, select the “Payment” option, click “Apply for Payment Plan (New)” and complete the application.
KRA also clarified that taxpayers with a combination of debts eligible for amnesty and those that do not qualify should include both categories in the same payment plan.
However, the authority said each category of debt would continue to receive its respective treatment, meaning the inclusion of the debts in one application would not change their individual eligibility for amnesty.
How to apply for a KRA payment plan
Taxpayers can submit their applications through the iTax portal by following these steps:
- Log in to the iTax portal.
- Select Payment.
- Click Apply for Payment Plan (New).
- Complete and submit the application as required.
KRA has encouraged taxpayers not to wait until the final days to take the necessary steps, urging them to regularise their tax affairs and remain compliant.
The authority has set December 31, 2026, as the final deadline for the tax amnesty, advising taxpayers with outstanding obligations to establish which debts qualify and act within the stipulated period.
Taxpayers with both eligible and ineligible debts should ensure that all relevant liabilities are included in the payment plan while recognising that the two categories will continue to be treated differently under the applicable rules.
