The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has strongly denied claims linking Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to an alleged multi-billion-shilling land grabbing saga, terming the reports as false and based on speculation.

In a press statement dated April 22, 2026, the ministry said the Cabinet Secretary had been wrongly implicated in what it described as “wild and false allegations” published in one of the local dailies.

“The attention of the Cabinet Secretary has been drawn to the wild and false allegations circulating in one of the dailies purporting to implicate him in a land dispute,” the statement read.

The ministry condemned the publication “in the strongest terms possible,” stating that the claims were based on “rumour, conjecture and wild allegations.”

Murkomen distanced himself from the matter, insisting he has no personal interest or knowledge of the land in question.

“The Cabinet Secretary does not have an iota of personal interest in the property. In fact, he has no knowledge of the purported land, its location or the presence of a land dispute,” the statement said.

The ministry also rejected suggestions that the CS may have used police influence in the alleged dispute, clarifying the limits of his role.

“The Cabinet Secretary does not carry out police patrols as purported by the petitioner. The fact that police officers may, by the very nature of their work, get involved in land issues anywhere in the country does not, in any way, mean the Cabinet Secretary is interested in any of those properties,” the statement added.

It further emphasized that, by law, the Cabinet Secretary does not direct the day-to-day operations of the police service, noting that his role is limited to issuing general policy guidelines through the National Police Service and the Inspector General.

“The Cabinet Secretary, by law and in fact, does not direct police in their day-to-day work. He only issues general policy guidelines which he does publicly, and in writing, through the Inspector General of Police,” the ministry said.

Murkomen has also called for swift investigations into the matter, urging authorities to safeguard legitimate landowners.

“The Cabinet Secretary urges the Inspector General and the investigative authorities to move with speed to address this matter and protect the interest of genuine land owners in this case and across the country,” the statement noted.

According to media reports, Murkomen, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and his Gatundu North counterpart Elijah Kururia have been dragged into a long-running family feud over prime land, which hosts the popular Paradise Lost recreational centre, in Runda.

A court has been petitioned to order the anti-graft agency to investigate the trio on accusations of abetting the grabbing of 300 acres.
