KenGen CEO Ronoh Kibet
Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has appointed Eng. Ronoh Kibet Charles as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer designate, with the new chief executive set to assume office on February 1, 2027.
Kibet’s appointment follows a competitive recruitment process and will see him succeed Eng. Peter Waweru Njenga, who is due to retire. The transition period is intended to facilitate a smooth handover and ensure continuity in the execution of the power producer’s strategic priorities.
Kibet currently serves as KenGen’s General Manager for Commercial Services, where he oversees energy markets, investments, new business and partnerships, marketing and corporate communication, and sustainability.
He brings more than 17 years of professional experience spanning geothermal development, project delivery, commercial strategy and business growth.
According to the company, his career combines engineering expertise with commercial leadership, including contributions to renewable energy development, the expansion of international consultancy services and the advancement of the Olkaria Green Energy Park.
Kibet holds a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication and Information Engineering and a Master of Science in Project Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and SAP Project System Consultant. His executive training includes an Organisational Leadership programme at Harvard Business School, as well as executive education at IESE Business School in Spain, the University of Cape Town and Strathmore Business School.
He is affiliated with the Engineers Board of Kenya, the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and the Geothermal Association of Kenya. He is also a recipient of the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW).
KenGen credits outgoing CEO with financial growth
KenGen’s Board, management and staff praised outgoing Managing Director and CEO Peter Waweru Njenga for his leadership, citing improved financial performance, business diversification and the expansion of the company’s geothermal consultancy business during his tenure.
The company recorded a profit after tax of KSh10.48 billion in the financial year ended 2025, alongside efforts to expand its consultancy portfolio beyond Kenya, including assignments in Eswatini.
The board expressed confidence that Kibet would build on these achievements by strengthening operational performance, developing staff and advancing the company’s growth and innovation agenda.
His appointment comes as KenGen continues to pursue opportunities in renewable energy development and commercial diversification, with geothermal energy remaining a key area of its operations.
The company said the incoming chief executive would be expected to lead its next phase of growth while advancing sustainable value creation.
The appointment was announced by Company Secretary FCS Austin Ouko, OGW, on behalf of the board.
