Standard Group Appoints Dr Naim Bilal Yaseen as Group CEO

The Standard Group PLC has appointed Dr Naim Bilal Yaseen as its Group Chief Executive Officer, effective November 1, 2026, following the conclusion of a competitive recruitment process.
In a notice dated October 29, 2026, the media company’s Board of Directors said Yaseen’s appointment supersedes his earlier designation in an acting capacity, with the new role taking effect at the beginning of November.
Yaseen brings more than three decades of experience spanning the media industry, public institutions and corporate governance.
He previously served as Managing Director of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and Director of Public Affairs and Communication at the Judiciary.
His academic qualifications include a PhD in Communication Studies, a Master of Arts in Communications Policy, a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Laws degree. He is also an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
Board eyes digital and commercial growth
The Standard Group board expressed confidence that Yaseen would strengthen the company’s digital and commercial performance while upholding the editorial independence that underpins public trust in its journalism.
His appointment comes as media organisations continue to navigate changes in audience consumption, digital platforms and commercial models.
The company did not outline specific strategic priorities or targets for Yaseen in the appointment announcement.
The notice was issued by order of the board and signed by Company Secretary Tom Odongo.
The appointment was announced in accordance with the Code of Corporate Governance Practices for Issuers of Securities to the Public, 2015, and the Capital Markets (Securities) (Public Offers, Listing and Disclosures) Regulations, 2023, which require timely disclosure of material information to the market and the public.
