Joe Sang Confirmed As KPC MD

The Kenya Pipeline Company Ltd (KPC) has appointed Joe Sang as the managing director.

Sang’s contract will be for a fresh term of four years, renewable subject to performance.

Sang previously served as the KPC managing director between 2016 and 2018.

“I was part of the KPC board that witnessed the profitability of the Company rise steadily from 2016 when he assumed management, culminating in a record Profit Before Tax of Ksh12.4 billion (Ksh8.6 billion after tax) in 2018. This is the highest profit in the 50-year
history of the Company,” Bett said.

Sang rejoined KPC three months ago as an acting Managing Director.

“He has achieved a commendable turnaround in the company’s operations, seeing to a groundbreaking enhancement of the pipeline flowrate from Mombasa to Nairobi of 1.3 million litres per hour from a prior average flowrate of 950 thousand litres per hour.”

According to Bett, Sang has overseen, over the past two months, the improved flowrate to Western Kenya terminals at 636 thousand litres per hour from a prior average of 530 thousand litres per hour. These constitute an average improvement in stock delivery of 37% pipeline efficiency. This has resulted in adequate stock cover across the country.

“He has also overseen the successful commissioning and commercial uptake of the Kisumu Oil Jetty (KOJ) which has so far transported 16.6 million litres of diesel and petrol across Lake Victoria from Kenya to Entebbe in Uganda in the last 4 months. He has also managed, in his short stint upon return, to professionalize the work culture at KPC translating to high staff morale, motivation and high productivity,” she added.

Sang previously worked with WHO-KEMRI as a Project Economist, Financial Accountant with National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK), Management Accountant with Unga Limited, Head of Finance for East African Breweries Limited (EABL) Subsidiary, Head of Group Performance and Reporting for East African Breweries Limited (EABL) Group, General Manager Finance & Strategy with KPC and later Managing Director in April 2016.

Sang holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Strategic Management, both from the University of Nairobi. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Member of the Institute of Public Certified Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
