Kenya Pipeline MD Joe Sang Resigns, Pius Mwendwa Appointed Acting Boss
Joe Sang
Kenya Pipeline Company has announced the resignation of its Managing Director, Joe Sang, marking a significant leadership change at the state-owned energy firm.
In a public notice, the company said Sang stepped down from his position effective April 3, 2026, after serving since January 2023. During his tenure, the firm recorded notable milestones, including achieving its highest profitability in its 52-year history, winning the 2025 Company of the Year Award, and successfully listing on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
The Board of Directors praised Sang for his leadership and contribution to both the company and Kenya’s energy sector, wishing him success in his future endeavors.
To ensure continuity, the Board has appointed Pius Mwendwa as Acting Managing Director. His appointment was formalized on April 8, 2026, after he had initially been assigned the role in an acting capacity from April 3.
Mwendwa, who currently serves as General Manager for Finance, has been with the company since 2010. Over the years, he has risen through the ranks, holding positions including Chief Accountant and Corporate Finance Manager before assuming his current role in 2020. He has overseen key departments such as Finance and Accounts, Revenue and Commercial Services, and ICT.
Prior to joining Kenya Pipeline, Mwendwa worked at Nation Media Group for over a decade, where he rose to the position of Group Management Accountant.
The Board assured shareholders and stakeholders that the leadership transition will not affect the company’s strategic direction, operational stability, or financial performance, reiterating its commitment to delivering long-term value.
Kenya Pipeline Company remains a key player in the country’s energy infrastructure and is regulated by the Capital Markets Authority.
