NTSA Deregisters Seven PSV Operators For Violating Transport Rules

Seven PSV operators have been deregistered by the National Transport and Safety Authority for for violating transport regulations.

Molo shuttle Sacco (Nairobi, Nakuru and Kisii route), Nairobi Kiruline Services (Nairobi, Murang’a, Othaya, Nyeri, Nyahururu route) Gakanago Sacco (Nyeri, Gataragwa and Ngobit) and New Lowland Sacco (Nakuru, Marigat, Kabarnet) are among the saccos deregistered.

Others include Hannover Commercial Enterprise (Kikuyu, Waiyaki Way, Westlands, Kasarani, Mwiki route), Newlot Sacco(Nairobi, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Kibwezi, Voi, Mombasa route) and and Peja Travellers Ltd (Jericho, Maringo, Jogoo Road and Temple Road).

In a statement, NTSA boss Francis Meja said the move was aimed at bringing back sanity to the Kenya roads.

“Following the violation of provisions of section 5(1) of the Natioanal Transport and Safety Authority (operation of PSV) regulations 2014, the (above) seven Transport Operators were deregistered from operating with effect from September 13, 2018,” read the statement in part.

Between 3000 and 13 000 Kenyans lose their lives in road traffic crashes every year. The majority of these people are vulnerable road users – pedestrians, motorcyclists, and cyclists. In addition, nearly one-third of deaths are among passengers – many of whom are killed in unsafe forms of public transportation.

In the first five months this year, road accidents had claimed a total of 1,348 lives.
