Outgoing KPC Managing Director Joe Sang Arrested Alongside Other Executives

The outdoing Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC) managing director Joe Sang has been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

Other five managers in the firm were arrested at night in connection to several graft charges facing the state corporation.

Others arrested include the General Manager, Supply Chain Vincent Cheruiyot, Gloria Khafafa and general manager in charge of infrastructure Billy Aseka.

Ms Khafafa is said to have been hired fraudulently, without papers.

Sang has been at the centre of graft allegations in which the company lost over 23 million litres of fuel.

The scandal riddled firm’s troubles started during the 2013/14 financial year when KPC tendered to deliver 60 hydrant pit valves for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at a cost of Ksh647 million.

On May 24 this year, EACC detectives raided the offices and residences of KPC officials who handled the procurement and retrieved documents that chief executive Halakhe Waqo said were crucial in the investigation.

During the same 2013-14 fiscal year, KPC entered into another flawed procurement in the purchase of composite sleeve repair kits at a cost of Sh404 million.
