CS Alice Wahome Demonstrates Registration Process for Affordable Housing Unit via Boma Yangu
Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, Ms Alice Wahome has presided over the onboarding of Ms Milka Moraa into the Affordable Housing Program through the Boma Yangu platform.
The allocation follows public outcry after she was ejected from the church for seeking financial help to pay her rent to avert her eviction and seizure of her household assets.
Speaking during the ceremony, CS Wahome said “Just like Moraa has acquired a studio, every Kenyan deserves the opportunity to own a home. The government is committed to making homeownership affordable and accessible to all. We encourage every eligible citizen to register and begin their journey to owning a home today.”
The affordable housing program is aimed at providing decent and quality homes for all Kenyans, bridging the gap between the demand and supply of housing in Kenya. This initiative has brought the dream of homeownership closer to all Kenyans having with its classifications in social, affordable and market housing.
Moraa was guided through each step of the registration and, relaying the process on a live screen recording to demonstrate how simple and transparent the home allocation and application process is under the government’s Affordable Housing initiative at Ardhi House.
All Kenyans are eligible to register for these homes on Boma Yangu, creating an account with one’s personal details, selecting the preferred unit based on availability and pricing then commence with saving.
With a required minimum deposit of 10% of the purchase price, one is eligible for home allocation. To apply for a unit, complete the application form available online, choose your preferred purchase plan from the:
1. Outright Cash Purchase – Full payment upon purchase.
2. Home Loan – Financing through a partner financial institution.
3. Tenant Purchase Scheme (TPS) – A structured payment plan where tenants make monthly payments toward ownership.
Once an application is submitted, the Affordable Housing Board reviews it through a fair and transparent process. The social housing income is eligible for assistance of up to 10% of the purchase price upon request.
The CS rallied Kenyans to take advantage of the Affordable Housing Programme. Whether through outright purchase, home loans, or the flexible Tenant Purchase Scheme, homeownership is now within reach.
