The Standard Group PLC has appointed Chaacha Mwita as its substantive Chief Executive Officer, while also announcing changes to its company secretariat in a fresh leadership shake-up.
In a notice to shareholders and the investing public, the Board confirmed that Mwita’s appointment took effect on April 1, 2026, following months of serving in an acting capacity.
“Mr Chaacha Mwita has been appointed as the substantive Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company with effect from 1st April 2026,” the Board said.
Mwita had been serving as Acting CEO since July 2025, a period during which he “provided strategic leadership and operational stability, and oversaw the continued execution of the Company’s business objectives.”
The Board said the decision followed a comprehensive evaluation and a structured recruitment process.
“Following a comprehensive evaluation of his performance and a structured appointment process, the Board is satisfied that Mr Mwita has demonstrated the requisite leadership capability, experience and integrity to assume the role on a substantive basis,” the statement read.
The media executive brings extensive experience in leadership, operations and corporate strategy, with a track record in organisational management, stakeholder engagement and execution of strategic initiatives.
Mwita holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of St Gallen in Switzerland, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Nairobi.
“The Board congratulates Mr Mwita on his appointment and looks forward to his continued leadership in driving the Company’s strategy, strengthening stakeholder confidence and enhancing long-term shareholder value,” the Board added.
Company Secretary changes
In a separate notice, the Board announced that Millicent Ngetich has resigned as Company Secretary effective March 31, 2026.
“The Board of Directors take this opportunity to extend its gratitude to Ms Ngetich for her immense contribution and dedication to the Standard Group, and wishes her the very best in her future endeavors,” the statement said.

Bariu previously worked as a legal researcher with the Judiciary, where she supported high-level judicial decision-making through legal analysis, governance oversight, performance monitoring and institutional compliance frameworks.
She has also served at the Capital Markets Authority in the Market Operations Directorate, where she was involved in regulatory inspections, compliance assessments and risk-based supervision.
In addition, she has provided company secretarial services in private practice, advising corporate clients on statutory compliance, board processes and governance frameworks.
Her academic credentials include a Master of Laws in Corporate Governance from the University of Nairobi, a Bachelor of Laws from Kenyatta University, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and certification as a public secretary. She is also a member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries and the Law Society of Kenya.
