The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced the exit of its Commissioner General, Humphrey Wattanga, who has proceeded on terminal leave effective immediately.

In an internal memo, the KRA Board of Directors said Wattanga’s departure marks the end of a tenure during which he played a significant role in advancing the authority’s mandate and overseeing key organizational restructuring reforms.

“The Board extends appreciation to Mr. Wattanga for his contributions and wishes him well in his future endeavours,” the statement read.

To ensure continuity of operations, the Board has appointed Lillian Nyawanda, currently the Commissioner for Customs and Border Control, as the acting Commissioner General.

Dr. Nyawanda will serve in the interim role pending the recruitment of a substantive Commissioner General through a competitive process.

The leadership transition comes at a time when KRA continues to implement reforms aimed at improving tax collection efficiency and enhancing service delivery.
