Airtel Increases Call, Data And SMS Rates In Line With Finance Bill 2018

Airtel has become the latest telco in the country to increase tariff rates for voice calls, short messages and data services.

In a statement, Airtel Managing Director Prasanta Das Sarma said the move was in line with the Finance Act 2018.

“In view of the recent increase in excise duty, other taxes and rising input costs, we are constrained to increase our headline voice and data tariffs by 30 cents each and our SMS tariff by 10 cents effective from midnight tonight,” said Airtel in a statement.

On October 17, Safaricom increased its voice calls and data by 30 cents and SMS by 10 cents.
