The newly constituted IEBC is anchored by a Chairperson versed in law and governance, flanked by commissioners whose combined expertise spans public administration, legal practice, academia, diplomacy, regional governance, and youthful dynamism.

This diverse skill set positions the Commission to steer Kenya toward credible, transparent, and reform-oriented electoral management ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Here’s what you need to know about the new commissioners;

Erastus Edung Ethekon – IEBC Chairperson

Background & Education: Born in 1977 in Turkana County, Ethekon holds an LL.B from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law.

He enhanced his legal and governance credentials with further studies in the UK, Spain, and Nottingham.

Career Path: Ethekon has served with the UNDP and UNRCO, focusing on programme management and development initiatives, and later returned to Kenya as County Attorney for Turkana (2018–2024) . In private practice, he operates E. Ethekon & Co. Advocates.

Vision: During vetting, he pledged impartiality and support for judicial oversight and compliance in boundary delimitation processes.


Ann Njeri Nderitu – Commissioner

Professional Trajectory: Nderitu is a seasoned public administrator with 23 years in Kenya’s electoral and governance landscape. She has served as Registrar of Political Parties since 2018 and spent a decade at IEBC .

Credentials: Educated as a teacher, she later attained advanced diplomas in public administration and linguistics.

Reputation: Known for her integrity, she firmly rejects any claims of unreliability or ‘deep state’ influence .


Moses Alutalala Mukhwana – Commissioner

Academic Background: A lawyer with a Doctorate and MBA in Global Management from Switzerland’s SMA Swiss Management Academy .

Professional Roles: He leads his own law firm and chairs the Audit & Governance Committee at the Southeastern Kenya University . His work intersects law, public policy, and governance.

Public Accountability: During vetting, Mukhwana defended his legal work’s impartiality and clarified his non-political role.


Mary Karen Sorobit – Commissioner

Legal Profile: An attorney and advocate of the High Court of Kenya who advises on company secretarial matters .

Career: Served at the Judges & Magistrates Vetting Board, highlighting her expertise in institutional review .

Regional Tie: Originally from Uasin Gishu, she brings county-level insight to national electoral oversight .


Hassan Noor Hassan – Commissioner

Public Service: A former Director of Administration in multiple ministries (Local Government, Sports, Education) and held CAS roles between 2010 and 2022 .

Education & Politics: Holds degrees in sociology and political science from University of Nairobi and a Master’s in International Studies & Diplomacy . Ran unsuccessfully for Mandera governor in 2017 and holds ODM allegiance.

Integrity: As Rift Valley PC, he played a stabilising role during the 2007–2008 crisis , and clarified ties to MP Junet Mohamed to allay fears of bias.


Prof. Francis Odhiambo Aduol – Commissioner

Academic Distinction: A geodesy and surveying expert, Aduol rose to Full Professor and served as Vice-Chancellor of Technical University of Kenya (2013–2023) . He was founding Principal of Kenya Polytechnic University and contributed significantly to national higher education legislation.

Global Credentials: Earned a PhD in Geodesy from the University of Stuttgart and authored numerous technical publications .


Fahima Araphat Abdallah – Commissioner

Youthful Leadership: At 32, Fahima brings a fresh perspective. She served as CEC for Lands, Infrastructure, Finance, Trade, Agriculture, Fisheries & Water in Lamu (2017–2022) and previously as local Ward Administrator .

Academic Qualifications: Holds a Master’s in Project Planning & Management (UoN) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting, Kenyatta University), plus a diploma in investment advice . Also serves on the Lamu County Assembly Service Board and as a facilitator in governance training.

Assets Declaration: Reported net worth of approximately KSh 77 million in assets including land, vehicle, and livestock .
