How to Choose or Change NHIF Outpatient Facility

The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is mandated to provide accessible, affordable, sustainable and quality health insurance for all Kenyan citizens who have attained the age of 18 years and a monthly income of Ksh1,000 and above.

With the advent of technology and emergence of Covid-19 NHIF has introduced Selfcare platforms which allow members to choose new, confirm existing or change preferred outpatient hospitals for themselves and their dependents.

The deadline for changing outpatient facility has been extended to May 15, 2020.

The changes can be made in three ways using your mobile phone:

NHIF USSD code *155

Steps:

  1. Dial *155#
  2. Select your language either English or Kiswahili.
  3. Enter your ID
  4. Select option you want effect and follow all the instructions that will pop on you screen

NHIF Mobile App (My NHIF)

Steps:

  1. Download My NHIF Self-care app from google store or by clicking here.
  2. Enter your ID Number
  3. Request for an One Time Pin(OTP) that will be sent to your phone number. Enter the pin and you will be logged in to the app.
  4. Once you have been logged in select the option choose Outpatient Facility or Change Outpatient Facility depending on what you want to accomplish.

Steps

  1. Use this link http://www.nhif.or.ke/healthinsurance/nhifselfcare to acces NHIF selfcare portal.
  2. Enter your ID Number then click on continue.
  3. You will be prompted to enter One Time Pin(OTP) that will be sent to your mobile phone number. Once you have entered the pin click on Verify.
  4. While in NHIF Selfcare dashboard click on Change Outpatient Facility as shown below:
