Ken Mijungu, a renowned journalist, lawyer, and businessman has spoken out days after he lost his job at Cape Media’s TV47.

In a statement on Monday, February 24, 2025, Mijungu rubbished claims that he had been fired from the station days after getting employed.

“I am a public figure hence I owe you duty whenever there is a misunderstanding. Sometimes you must stoop very low to enable people with low IQ and understanding to comprehend simple things. I was not fired from anywhere or by anyone. No institution I have worked for for the last 16 years has ever fired me,” Mijungu stated.

According to a letter he sent to the management before losing his job, Mijungu said he could not find a way to fit in to the TV47 team, hence asked for more time to figure it out.

“I seek to make this request official. I have been at cape media for 3 weeks now trying to figure out how to fit and I honestly believe I am still unable to place my finger at it. This is compounded by the interactions I have had with my colleagues. Due to the forgoing reason, I kindly request you to extend me some time to figure this out,” the letter read in part.

The management however decided to end the engagement with Mijungu on February 22, 2025, following his request.

“After careful consideration, management has decided to revoke the Service Agreement dated January 31, 2025. This decision is effective as of February 22, 2025. Despite this development, we remain open to future possibilities and wish you the best in your endeavours,” the letter from the management stated.

Mijungu had joined TV47 in January, shortly after announcing his departure from Standard Group’s KTN. The station made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) on February 7, 2025, also revealing that TV47 would be moving from Channel 268 to Channel 274 on DStv—a slot previously occupied by KTN News.

“Cape Media is pleased to announce that Ken Mijungu will be joining the TV47 team, coinciding with our move from Channel 268 to Channel 274 on DStv, effective February 12, 2025. This is part of our broader plans to make TV47 Bigger, Better, and Bolder,” TV47 said in a statement.

The journalist now says he will concentrate on his car business and could be out of the newsroom for a while.

“I am a consummate professional and a trained Lawyer. For now, I will concentrate on selling cars, leasing aircraft, consulting in various fields and washing cars,” Mijungu added.

Mijungu’s Career

Mijungu’s career began at CCTV Africa before he moved to Mediamax Network Ltd. He later joined Nation Media Group (NTV) as a senior reporter and host of Sidebar, a political talk show featuring prominent figures.

In 2020, he transitioned to Standard Media Group (KTN News), where he served as a news anchor and host of current affairs programs. Mijungu became a key figure in political reporting and analysis, though the specific shows he hosted there are not widely documented.

In addition to his career in journalism, Mijungu is a trained lawyer, having earned his law degree from Moi University. He also owns and operates a car hire business, a venture he has managed alongside his media work.
