Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Abbas Gullet Set To Retire
Dr Abbas Gullet, current Red Cross Kenya Secretary General will retire at the end of his contract on December 31, 2019 and will be succeeded by Dr Asha Mohammed who has been serving as Deputy Secretary General in charge of Programs and the Global Fund effective January 1, 2020.
Announcing the move, Mohamud Said, Governor Kenya Red Cross thanked Dr Gullet for his long-standing service acknowledging how far he had brought the organization from one that was in debt of Ksh35 Million in 2001 when he took over and now stands at about Ksh10 Billion.
Kenya Red Cross Society is the only non-Commercial entity to have received Superbrand recognition for bringing efficiency and speed to disaster response and Programme implementation for the last 10 years.

He commented that, “Abbas has always believed in leading from the front not just when we were managing a disaster but even in where the organization needed to go, and we are grateful for his service. He leaves the organization stronger than he found it and hands it over to on extremely competent successor.”
Dr Asha Mohammed is no stranger to the Kenya Red Cross. she was first hired as Head of Health in 2002 at the International Committee of the Red Cross and International Federation of the Red Cross.
Dr Mohammed was previously Head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Regional Delegation for Southern Africa Region in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she knit together an integrated approach to National Society development and programmes across 49 countries.
She brings a wealth of international experience to her new role, having also previously worked at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as Movement Partnerships Advisor.

I have been privileged to have worked closely with Dr Abbas Gullet and shared in the vision he had for the organization and one we have worked with. I would like to assure the entire Kenya Red Cross family we shall continue to build on this vision.” Said Dr Asho Mohammed
On his part, Dr Abbas Gullet thanked the entire Kenya Red Cross team for their support and dedication. He assured them that even though he was leaving his post as Secretary General he was still part of the Kenya Red Cross family.
“I joined the Red Cross family in 1971 I hove worked far the post 45 years, this will always be my family and you can count on me to show up when you need me as I will remain a volunteer.”
