Telkom, Zuku Follow Suit, Increases Charges On Mobile Phone Rates
The two remaining mobile service providers Telkom Kenya and Zuku have increased their rates in line with the Finance Act 2018.
In the new rates, Telkom said off-net calls will be charged at Ksh3.30 per minute, on-net calls Ksh2.30 per minute and SMS (any-net) at Ksh1.10cts per SMS.
Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) price for mobile data go up by 30 cents per MB translating to a new Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) price of Sh4.30.

Mobile post-paid services offered by Telkom will also attract a 15 per cent excise duty, up from 10 percent while broadband and fixed voice services will see the introduction of 15 percent excise duty.
Pay TV and internet firm Zuku announced that they will increase their rates by 15 per cent.
“The application of the excise duty by the government has led to an increase in the charges payable for the internet component of Zuku Fiber packages,” announced Zuku.
Earlier today, Airtel announced an increase of their voice and data tariffs by 30 cents each and SMS tariff by 10 cents.
On October 17, Safaricom increased its voice calls and data by 30 cents and SMS by 10 cents.
