Ride-hailing company Bolt has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it plans to shut down its operations in Kenya, assuring customers and drivers that its services remain fully operational.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 1, 2026, the company described as fake a document that has been widely shared online alleging that Bolt would cease operations in the country effective June 8, 2026.
“It has come to our attention that a fraudulent document purporting to be an official communication from Bolt Kenya is currently circulating on social media and messaging platforms. The document falsely claims that Bolt will cease operations in the Kenyan market effective 8th June 2026,” the company said.
Bolt categorically denied authoring or issuing the document and urged the public to disregard it.
“We wish to categorically state that this document is FAKE and did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives,” the company stated.
The company reassured its customers, driver-partners and other stakeholders that it continues to operate normally in Kenya and remains committed to the market.
“Bolt Kenya remains fully operational and committed to serving our driver-partners and customers across the country,” the statement added.
The clarification comes after the alleged shutdown notice sparked speculation online about the future of the ride-hailing platform, which has a significant presence in Kenya’s transport sector.
Bolt said it remains focused on providing safe, reliable and innovative mobility services while supporting thousands of drivers who earn a living through the platform.
The company also urged members of the public to verify information through its official communication channels before sharing it.
“We urge all driver-partners, customers, and members of the public to disregard the circulating document in its entirety, refrain from sharing or amplifying this misinformation, and rely solely on official communications from Bolt Kenya through our verified channels, including our official website, verified social media accounts, and the Bolt app,” the company said.
Bolt further revealed that it is investigating the source of the fake document and warned that appropriate action could be taken against those responsible for creating and spreading the misinformation.
